The more i listen to Earl Scruggs banjo, the way he plays backup to the lead, there is no comparison in my living memory. The saliva drips out my mouth while i listen! THE MAN!
I don’t think it does anything to help remember these fellas music and spread any joy with one of the related videos being a song.called n****r in a woodpile. I’m only hear to listen to the music, its not right people already associate the banjo with butt rape and now anyone young or ignorant or full of hate will see this and use it in some.negative way, and this ks the happiest song I think Ive ever heard.
Friend, if you have the skill to post this on Youtube, you have the skill to play Foggy Mountain Breakdown. It is your typical 1/4/5 progression with the exception that you are doing an E minor where you would expect to find a C. What is a lot harder is making it sound as good as Earl Scruggs does, and all i can say about that, just love the music your playing. Also, that hammer on your low D, that is a really important part of the melody. Voicing that is an important nuance.
When I was 9 years old and living in Dinuba, CA, there was a 66 year old man (He was born on Feb. 5th at the turn of the century in Texas.) that my Mum was friends with and this man could play anything that had strings on it and MAN! HE COULD MOVE HIS FINGERS! This man gave me a great love of Bluegrass and I could listen to him play all day and ask for more!
Thank you Perry Cutberth for the gift you gave me. I will NEVER forget you!
@redleg56 I can imagine that, one student carrying a boombox on their shoulder playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown while two others punch the hell out of each other. I’d pay good money to watch.
@RodVantol “And I don’t care what the law says, they done right by me and when they get caught, I’m gonna bring me a mess of flowers to their funeral.”
@icepickmikey Bluegass isnthe roots of our music in Ky..My fiance’ and his family still play it….U should hear him play Foggy Mountain Breakdown and Dueling Banjos…Nobody can keep up with him on Dueling Banjos……
This man is the reason for my picking up the banjo recently. I was a guitar player all my life but I heard this song (for the nine thousanth time) and it just hit me I had to learn it. I am getting it under my fingers but not up to speed. I love the banjo now. Happy Birthday Earl! Thanks for all your hard work in your contribution to music.
